PNB LBO Syllabus 2026: Section-Wise Topics & Exam Pattern

For candidates still preparing (or those appearing in future PNB LBO cycles), the official PNB LBO syllabus is divided into five sections:

  • Reasoning & Computer Aptitude
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation
  • English Language
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • General/Economy/Banking Awareness

Preparation Tips

  • Stay updated with daily banking and current affairs through newspapers and reliable sources.
  • Focus on conceptual clarity rather than rote memorization, especially for reasoning and DI.
  • Practice calculation shortcuts to improve speed in the quantitative section.
  • Solve puzzles and logical reasoning sets regularly to sharpen accuracy.
  • Prepare for the computer knowledge portion by brushing up on basic IT concepts and recent digital-banking developments, since this often overlaps with the reasoning and awareness sections.

Exam Pattern Overview

The PNB LBO written exam is conducted in online mode and consists of objective, multiple-choice questions spread across the five sections listed above. Each of the 150 questions carries one mark, and candidates are given a composite time limit to attempt the full paper, with the bank specifying section-wise or overall timing details in the official information handout released alongside the admit card. Since the exam tests both speed and accuracy, candidates are advised to attempt sections they are strongest in first, without spending too much time on any single difficult question.

Section-Wise Focus Areas

  • Reasoning & Computer Aptitude: Puzzles, seating arrangements, syllogisms, coding-decoding, blood relations, and basic computer fundamentals.
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Tables, bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs, and data sufficiency questions requiring quick calculation.
  • English Language: Reading comprehension, cloze test, error detection, sentence rearrangement, and vocabulary-based questions.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Simplification, number series, quadratic equations, profit and loss, time and work, and mensuration.
  • General/Economy/Banking Awareness: Current affairs, banking terms, monetary policy, government schemes, and static general knowledge relevant to the financial sector.

Recommended Study Approach

Aspirants are generally advised to build a study timetable that allocates dedicated time to each section on a rotational basis, take periodic mock tests to track improvement, and revise banking and economic current affairs weekly rather than cramming close to the exam date. Reviewing previous attempts to identify recurring weak areas can also help prioritise revision in the final weeks before the exam.

Time Management Tips

Since the exam is conducted within a composite time limit across all sections, candidates are encouraged to decide in advance the approximate number of minutes to spend on each section rather than moving between sections randomly during the actual test. Attempting a full-length mock test under timed conditions at least once a week in the final month of preparation can help build the stamina and pacing needed to complete all 150 questions without rushing through the last section. Aspirants should also keep the Local Language Proficiency Test in mind well in advance, since basic conversational and reading proficiency in the applied state’s local language is assessed separately from the written exam and cannot be crammed at the last minute.
